A semi-opaque carmine/blood red colour, with a narrow rim. The nose offers a complex array of aromas, including desiccated bramble and blackcurrant, spiced orange, damp earth, roasted red meat, old leather, curry spices, brioche and a touch of charred oak. The palate is generous, ripe and soft, yet really quite expansive. Masses of spice and herb-infused dark berry flavours coat the mouth, with a good deal of meaty/herby savoriness, a hint of licorice and balsam, and again a splash of oak, all of which is wrapped in a cloak of rich, uber-ripe tannins and a balancing streak of cherry skin acidity, with a long, mellow finish. At 4 years of age (at the time of writing - August 2023), it is already beautifully balanced and delicious to drink. That said, it has the structure to age and evolve gracefully for at least another 5 to 10 years. A very fine wine indeed. Biodynamic. |
