The estate's flagship red. Quite a deep but translucent crimson red colour, fading to a narrow rim. The nose offers intense aromas of bramble, blackcurrant leaf and cassis (as the name suggests), with myriad background notes including tobacco, mocha, new leather, damp earth and tapenade. At under 3 years old (tasted March 2022) it really is only just getting into its stride, with a generous core of black fruit flavours beginning to emerge from behind a cloak of toasty oak and rich but fine tannins. Even so, it already shows some elegance and finesse, especially an hour or two after opening, with all of those tertiary notes from the nose emerging on the palate, along with garrigue herbs, peppery spice, orange peel and a hint of fine eau de vie, whilst ample acidity carries the fruit all the way to a very long, juicy/tangy finish. This really is a very classy wine, and whilst it is approachable now - with food - it has a good few years of evolution ahead of it.
