What can I say about this grower (and this particular cuvée) that I haven't said many times before? With a nose that is gently smoky, tarry, meaty, herby, floral and fruity all at the same time, it really does offer so much interest and flavour for the money. If one single wine epitomises for me all that is great about the red wines of Languedoc, then this might be it. The aromas all come through on the palate, which is medium-to-full-bodied, fresh and tangy/herby, with a complex array of both fresh and crystallised bramble, plum and blueberry flavours and a hint of black pepper. The gently rustic but ripe tannins are matched by mouth-watering acidity and real mineral depth, leading to a finish that is long, sweet-sour and very more-ish. It isn't massively complex, or a long keeper, but is nevertheless a delicious, quintessentially cool-climate - Languedoc wine. Organic. |
